deviantART & Muro

Reason #9,874,647 that I adamantly <3 DA; which is not even to mention the ridiculous sales they have been having all month, the free journal skin (provided by a DA user) that I am working on customizing, and the endless -endless- amount of artists who are, have, and will continue to take the time to write in-depth tutorials for everything from making avatars and designing interfaces to thinking and working creatively. Can you dig it, I said, can you dig it, man? Yeah, I thought so…

Amplify’d from hq.deviantart.com
New deviantART muro features are here! deviantART muro brings early presents for you! If you’ve been watching this space, you know we’ve been moving very quickly with deviantART muro, our HTML5 drawing tool. Last week we announced that deviantART muro would be enabled on Profile Pages, and I am pleased to present that we have even more exciting goodies! ::drum roll:: Just released… saving enhancements and more tools!

Savings Enhancements!
As you may recall, when you save drawings in deviantART muro, you have to specify a “slot” where you would things to be to saved — think of slots as a “file,” but cooler. With some technical upgrades, we were able to increase the number of save slots for each deviant. Now, everyone has 3 slots. BUT… if you’re a Premium Member, you get to enjoy a whopping 100 save slots! Stay tuned for more slot-related functionality in the future.

More Tools!
You asked for it and now they’re here! We just released Select Tools and a Move Tool. For the Select Tool, there are two modes: Lasso & Marquee, each with additive and subtractive versions. And just what is a Select Tool without move? Well, we added a Move Tool as well. That’s a total of 7 new tools for you to use while creating even more amazing drawings.

Yes, these tools come with all the bells and whistles you need to create your next masterpiece. You can now cut, copy, and paste layer content using the Selection Tool. Additionally, you can use the Draw, Eraser, and even Flood Fill tools in conjunction with the Selection Tool. While this may seem simple, it is anything but. This high-tech functionality uses HTML5 in ways that the Internet has never before seen!

If you are a hardcore Photoshop user, you may notice that our Select Tool acts a bit differently than what you’re familiar with. That is because Photoshop uses invisible layers and voodoo magic, reliant on a user’s previous action, to determine the behavior of the selection tool. We wanted to make our tool slightly more intuitive, so that the Select Tool’s behavior is consistent. If you’re interested in knowing more about this, be sure to read this journal entry.

deviantART muro, web browsers, and hardware acceleration…oh my
We’ve seen a few users say that their drawings lag a bit when using deviantART muro. Any potential lag that you may be encountering is due to your browser version or computer hardware. Please be sure that you’re using updated versions of FirefoxChrome, or Safariweb browsers in order to handle this cutting-edge HTML5 technology. In addition, web browsers are starting to use your graphic card’s GPU to render image-heavy content instead of your central processing unit (CPU). This is because a CPU cannot smoothly handle complex graphics that are becoming more common in daily internet use. So, this shift from CPU to GPU will substantially help increase deviantART muro’s speed. Safari currently utilizes this functionality and it’s coming soon for Firefox and Chrome.

Enjoy the swag and stay awesome!

~ Truth ~

Our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate, but that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, handsome, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God within us. It is not just in some; it is in everyone and as we let our own light shine we consciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our fear our presence automatically liberates others.
